Free2B is a community interest organisation that works with LGBTQ+ young people and their families. I currently serve as a Non-Executive Director and Treasurer.

What Free2B does

Free2B runs youth groups and family support programmes for LGBTQ+ young people and the people around them.

Their work focuses on creating safe spaces where young people can be themselves, build confidence, and connect with others who understand their experiences.

Alongside youth groups, Free2B also works with parents, carers, schools, and community organisations to improve understanding and inclusion. Much of their impact comes from helping families and institutions support young people more effectively.

Organisations like Free2B often operate with small teams and limited resources, but deliver an enormous amount of value in their communities.

How I support Free2B

My role sits mainly behind the scenes.

As Treasurer and a Non-Executive Director, I help the board and leadership team make sure the organisation is financially well-run and sustainable. That includes:

• overseeing financial reporting and governance

• helping the organisation plan and manage budgets

• supporting decisions about growth and funding

• making sure the financial side of the organisation stays stable as the programmes expand

This kind of work isn’t very visible, but it matters. When governance and finances are in good shape, the team can focus their time and energy on the work that actually helps young people.

Why this matters

Community organisations often grow because of passion and commitment. But as they develop, they also need strong governance, financial clarity, and people who can help guide the organisation at board level.

That’s where I try to contribute. My professional background in accounting and financial management allows me to support the organisation in a practical way, while the team continues to lead the programmes and community work they’re experts in.
